Gavin is a young 8-year-old boy who loves the color pink, playing football and eating his favorite candy, sour patch watermelon. Gavin spends most of his time outside playing sports with his friends and riding his scooter. One day, Gavin started to become weak and had numerous headaches. The symptoms became constant and a trip to the hospital turned into unfortunate news.
Gavin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Time spent riding his scooter quickly turned into rides to the hospital for treatment. Gavin’s world had completely turned upside down with no hope of ever being able to play outside with his friends again. That hope was restored when Gavin’s family discovered that he was eligible for a wish from Make-A-Wish!
Being such an adventurous young boy, it was no surprise that his most heartfelt wish when asked by Make-A-Wish volunteers was to go to Hawaii! Gavin really enjoys the beach areas because most of his past activities have been beach related. When thinking about his wish, he imagined himself swimming with the animals every day because of his deep passion for them.
In August of 2019, his wish became a reality. Gavin and his family were picked up in a fancy limousine and flown out to Hawaii to make his beach dreams come true. Upon arrival in Hawaii, Gavin shined like a rainbow on a cloudy day. During his time there, he got to swim with dolphins, spend time on the beach looking for sand crabs and most importantly, got to spend time outdoors away from the hospital with his family. Being surrounded by clear beautiful skies and palm trees as opposed to dim white walls in the hospital room was enough to make him smile from cheek to cheek so contagiously that those around him were just as cheerful as he was.
Gavin and his family are forever grateful for all the hard work put forth to make his wish possible. His wish was an experience full of memories that he will cherish forever!
