At only 12 years old, every day revealed new battles and struggles to Dallas during his fight against leukemia. Dallas spent most of his young teenage years in hospitals receiving treatments and undergoing tests, often filling his spirit with frustration and fear.
However, during Dallas’ toughest days, he turned to two things to help lift his spirits and bring him joy: hearing stories about Ireland and listening to lots of Celtic music. Sharing his appreciation for Celtic music, Dallas told The Press Enterprise, “It makes you tap your toe.”
Using Irish culture as a healthy escape from his struggles, Dallas always knew his most heartfelt wish would be to go to Ireland. After two years of waiting for his health to improve, Dallas attended the California Irish Festival in Perris where he and his family received his wish to travel to Ireland for one week while on stage with the Brick Top Blaggers, his favorite band.
“We’re very pleased he’s going to be able to do this. It’s been his dream for … about a year and three-quarters,” Dallas’ mother said as she shared her excitement with The Press Enterprise.
During their week in Ireland, Dallas and his family experienced everything the vastly exciting country had to offer for the very first time together. While in Dublin, Dallas and his family attended the St. Patrick’s Day Parade where the streets were decorated in banners, confetti and flags while the locals and Dallas relished in their Irish pride.
Dallas and his family explored famous castles, cathedrals, villages and the rolling green hills of Ireland. One of Dallas’ most exciting items that he got to cross of his Ireland bucket-list was visiting a famous donkey sanctuary!
Dallas’ adventure-filled week in Ireland is a trip that he and his family will always remember for years to come. Thank you to the California Irish Festival and the Brick Top Blaggers for helping us make his most heartfelt wish come true.
