“ His reaction of shock turned into a huge smile as he looked around and saw all the people that came to support him. ”

Jimmy is an adventurous teenager who was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer found in the body’s lymphoid tissue, at the age of 15. He has always loved the outdoors, cold weather, and spending time with his parents and four older siblings, so it was no surprise when Jimmy wished to go on a cruise to Alaska!

He was excited to go on Alaskan adventures with his family, including hiking, zip-lining, fishing, and sledding (and of course relaxing in the jacuzzi and eating the incredible buffet on the cruise ship)!

When it was time for his wish reveal, Jimmy’s family, friends and wish granters gathered at a local restaurant where they surprised Jimmy with excited cheers as he walked through the door. His reaction of shock turned into a huge smile as he looked around and saw all the people that came to support him. President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire, Stephanie McCormick, gave Jimmy a hug and told him that his wish to go on a cruise to Alaska was coming true! The look on Jimmy’s face was pure joy, and he was speechless when McCormick told him that not only his parents, but all four of his siblings would be going on the trip too! His joy was contagious.

Jimmy was presented with gifts to take on his trip by members of Service Champions Heating and Air Conditioning, which included board games, a backpack, books about Alaska, a brand new camera, and four packages of his favorite snack, Oreos. Each member of the family received a t-shirt that said “Jimmy’s Alaskan Adventure.” He could not wait to set sail!

When the magical day arrived, Jimmy and his family flew from Southern California all the way up to Alaska, finally arriving at the huge cruise ship. The snowy mountains, beautiful blue water, and cool northern air welcomed them to their new home for the next week. Once onboard, the captain of the ship invited Jimmy and his family inside to give them a private tour of the cockpit. He even presented Jimmy with his very own captain’s hat and showed him the ship’s charted course of the stops they would be making at different ports around the Gulf of Alaska. The family then relaxed, played games, ate delicious food, and soaked in the breathtaking views of the mountains, glaciers, and forests of Alaska.

While the boat was anchored, Jimmy and his family explored the different towns, went dogsledding, hiked to incredible waterfalls, watched the beautiful sunset over the purple mountains and even witnessed a bear looking for food. Jimmy was overjoyed that he was exploring beautiful Alaska with his favorite people, and he loved using his new camera to capture the special moments of the trip. He was living his dream, becoming a normal kid who got to spend quality time with his family while experiencing some of the most beautiful nature he had ever seen.

This trip will stay in the hearts of Jimmy and his family for years to come, and they are so grateful for the opportunity to go on such a special family vacation. It was a trip full of wonderful memories, laughter and wishes come true, and a time they will always treasure as “Jimmy’s Alaskan Adventure.”
