I was diagnosed with stage four Ewing’s sarcoma on September 20, 2013, when I was just 14 years old. I remember being absolutely speechless when I heard the words, “you have cancer.” I was confused, upset and scared but I knew my only choice was to fight and be strong. I went through 14 rounds of intense chemotherapy, 28 days of radiation and a huge major surgery to remove the tumor from my left leg and replace it with a titanium rod.
Going through the hardest moments of my life, music was an escape from my reality. I wrote a song called “It’s Only Temporary” and released it on iTunes in September to support Childhood Cancer Awareness month and donated all the funds to benefit kids fighting cancer. I wanted to reach out as much as possible to everyone going through a hard time to remind them to stay positive and know that they aren’t alone.
When I met with the Make-A-Wish team, I knew exactly what I would wish for. I’ve always wanted to explore Australia to hold a koala, see kangaroos, swim in the Great Barrier Reef and visit the Sydney Opera House. To my excitement and surprise, I was extremely blessed to have Make-A-Wish turn my dream into a reality. I could not explain how thrilled I was when I heard that my wish would be granted.
Holding a koala and watching the huge colorful fish swim around in the Great Barrier Reef was an incredible experience. Make-A-Wish exceeded my expectations and I could not be more thankful for everything they’ve done for me and so many others. Returning from my wish, I was told that I was cancer free which made my trip even more unforgettable.
To everyone struggling through a hard time, always remember your dream can come true and your battle is only temporary.
