Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire Welcomes Violet Shen M.D. to Board of Directors
Irvine, Calif. – Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire is pleased to announce the appointment of Violet Shen, M.D. to its Board of Directors.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Shen has practiced pediatric oncology in Orange County and is currently the CHOC Children's Specialist, heading the Neuro-Oncology Program at CHOC Hyundai Cancer Institute. Dr. Shen is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology and oncology.
A cancer survivor herself, Dr. Shen knows how much pain, suffering and fear come with a cancer diagnosis.
“Cancer patients need a hope or wish to hang on. Not every family has the ability or means to fulfill a wish, which is why Make-A-Wish is such a wonderful charitable organization,” said Dr. Shen.
Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Throughout the years, Shen has referred many of her medically-eligible patients to Make-A-Wish.
A child qualifies for a wish if they are between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 at the time of referral and are suffering from a progressive, degenerative or malignant condition.
“I have witnessed firsthand how a wish brings hope, joy and lasting memories for the patient and their whole family,” said Dr. Shen.

Dr. Shen’s focus while serving on the Board will be to assist the chapter with medical outreach to help grant 347 wishes to children living in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties this year.
